Goodbye, Boys of Summer, Hello Winter Warriors

October is a busy month in the sports community. Baseball season is all over but for the playoffs. Football is in full swing, other sports are starting or ending. I do love a good football game. I’m a big Syracuse University fan for both football and basketball. But when it comes to in-person games, the Syracuse Crunch hockey club is where it’s at for me. In fact, we’ll see our first Crunch (pre-season) game of the year later today.

We are lucky in here in Syracuse. We have two minor league teams: Syracuse Mets (NY Mets) baseball in the summer, and Syracuse Crunch (Tampa Bay Lightning) hockey in the winter. I can think of nothing else that can coax me out into a winter snowstorm besides a Crunch game. To be honest, the Crunch play only a mile or two away from where I live, and we generally don’t worry about a little snow.

Even JB gets into hockey!

It’s been awhile since the Crunch have won a Calder Cup (the AHL equivalent of the Stanley Cup) but the Lightning was on a roll there for awhile and, where did they get their great players from? The Crunch, of course. Vasilevski, Kucherov, Cirelli–all former Crunch players. Oh yeah: the Stanley Cup came to Syracuse and I got to see it up close!

So Goodbye, Summer. Hello, Fall. If you want me I’ll be watching a hockey game.
