What?? What person in their right mind wants it to be February?
February is the coldest–and often snowiest–month in this neck of the woods. A twenty-eight/nine-day month that feels like forty.
By now most of us snow-belters are sick, sick, sick of snow and cold. And this year has been a mother—–. What’s worse, it’s the kind of weather that respiratory viruses love: warm, cold, warm, cold, snow melts, snow falls in buckets., more melts…more buckets. New York is having once of its worst flu seasons in decades.
And by February, most of us are SAD: suffering from a lack of sunshine and vitamin D. We know that March will only be a cruel joke from Mother Nature: it only seems like spring is around the corner. Meanwhile, our cat, JB lolls on “her” bed, mocking those of us who must brave the elements.

In my mid-winter delerium, The Sound of Music tune, Edelweiss, has become any annoying ear worm, to such an extent that I have composed new lyrics. I call it “Tne Snowblower Song.”
Snow and ice! Snow and ice!
On winter mornings you greet me.
Tall and white, sunshine bright
You don’t look happy to see me.
Ev-e-ry day I must groom and blow,
Groom and blow forever!
Snow and ice!
You’re not nice.
Don’t come back–no not ever!
Think what you will…Is it April yet?
P.S. Have you bought your copy of Nostalgia yet? NO?? Get thee to my order site. (If you’ve read it already, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Best, Susannah
