Back to Trumbull’s Corners

Charlie, the dogs and I had such a great time at Trumbull’s Corners in February that we immediately booked another two-day getaway for April 15-17. The weather was much warmer, the countryside covered with blooming daffodils and tulips, the trees just beginning to show the pale green of new leaves.
Have I told you how much I love spring?
This spring has been largely overcast (see my Eclipse post) and rainy, so we were thrilled when the forecast for our trip was mild and sunny.
On Monday afternoon we took a short hike at Connecticut Hill Wildlife Preserve. Although we had a map, finding the Finger LakesTrail that traverses it was difficult, and we never did find the parking area and 3-mile hiking loop shown on the map. But it was an interesting hike: downhill going out, steep uphill coming back, and a few misdirections when we lost sight of the trail markers.
On Tuesday we visited Robert Treman State Park in Ithaca. The last time we were there the Rim Trail was closed because of ice, but this time it was open. Again, the trail was a lot of climbing (the slogan, “Ithaca is Gorges” ain’t for nothing!) and at the half-mile marker we decided to turn around with a promise to return when we are better equipped for a longer hike and without the dogs who object when the “walk” gets too long or strenuous (Magenta!)

I got some nice pictures of the falls that shows more than the one I took last time. From the Rim Trail you can see the extra cascades. We saw some pretty wildflowers and were thrilled to see red trillium – a wildflower that is becoming scarce.
Along the way Georgie spotted a pair of snakes “doin’ their thing.” He was determined to get in on the fun. Fortunately for the snakes, they were across a small ditch that was enough to keep Georgie away.
Wednesday morning we headed home, a dry trip despite the threat of heavy rain.
We’ll be back again for an autumn “leaf-peeping” trip.
