Just back from a week away on Lake Algonquin in the Adirondack hamlet of Wells, NY. It was our second year there and the weather couldn’t have been more different. Last year was unseasonably hot: 90s all week. This year was a more comfortable 70s. Rain on the way up, rain on the way home, but sunny while we were there.
We went on a couple of trail hikes–to Tenant Creek Falls and to Cod Pond. Both were rocky and narrow trails. The Cod Pond Trail had many downed trees across the trail, not sure if that was related to the tornado they had in July (over 20 tornadoes in the state in a matter of a few days). The damage in the video below happened only a couple of miles from our cottage.
Of course we had to go out for breakfast at least once. It took some looking but we found this great “Mom and Pop” diner just beyond Northville. I had a great steak and cheese omelette. Charlie had blueberry stuffed French toast, supposedly the cook’s specialty and it did not disappoint. Wednesday it was a 5:00 chicken-and-biscuits dinner at the local Methodist Church complete with Stewart’s ice cream for dessert.
I spent my mornings working on novel number two: Nostalgia, a Civil War Novel. Got lots written and finally completed Act I.
We saw our share of wildlife (see deer and a beaver below). Charlie got the prize (but no picture) with a bald eagle who flew around 20 feet above him and dove to catch a fish. All-in-all, it was another successful vacation.

Great photos!
