Has Spring Sprung?

This past week’s weather has been Mother Nature’s annual teaser. Deep in our hearts we know it can’t last. And it won’t. But oh how I wish she would make an exception this year! Even as I write this, temperatures are predicted to plunge and snow is in the forecast.
Mother Nature, it’s been a hard few months for us mere mortals. Politics, economic concerns, worry for the world as we know it, have all dogged us since last fall. Why, oh why, did you feel the need to add crappy winter weather to our list of woes?
So when last week rolled around–the last few days until official spring–we all had hope. The snow was finally melted. The sun was finally shining. We haven’t even needed our heavy winter coats.
The forecast for the upcoming week does not look good. But, if you ask my plants, they are ready for spring. The impatiens I overwintered inside are blooming. Even my mandevilla is blossoming. Outside the snowdrops and crocus are out and the leaves of spring tulips and daffodills are sprouting. Even the forsythia bush is greening up.

The one good thing about this time of year is that you know the good weather will come to stay soon. In my neck of the woods, “soon” won’t be until April, or maybe even May. But this is March, not December, and as we all know Hope “Springs” Eternal.

Please, Mother Nature. Make it so.
