A Good “Old-Fashioned” Winter

Blizzard of '66, Syracuse, NY

I’ve heard it a lot lately–perhaps because I am one of a group of *cough* aging individuals:

“Seems like winters have been wimpy lately. Where’s the good old-fashioned winter we had as kids?”

Well, folks, here it is! As of December 31, 2025 we’ve had 58 inches of snow so far this winter. FIFTY-EIGHT INCHES! Syracuse’s average annual snowfall is something around 120″, and if you venture north of town it’s likely to be a lot more. But on Tuesday of last week (12/30) we had a heck of a snowstorm descend on the city, about 16-24″ in that one day. Drive a little farther north and you’d find almost no new snow at all.

Here are some pictures to give you an idea

Now, since there’s so much snow (and nowhere to go?) why don’t you pick up a copy of my latest novel Nostalgia? Brew up a cup of tea, put another log on the fire, snuggle with your honey, and read the adventures of two real-life Civil War soldiers.

Did I mention it was a semi-finalist for the Historical Fiction Company’s 2025 Book of the Year? Read it and find out why!
