You "big-city" people just don't know what you're missing. Here's what it takes to entertain us simple country folk:fire trucks (clown optional) a tractor or twothe high school marching band, local VFW troops, lots of boy/girl scouts tossing candy to the crowd and most importantly... an excited little girl.......and you've got yourself a parade.

Blogging with Hank
As long as we're discussing my favorite quotes and writers, check on this link to The Blog of Henry David Thoreau. I love it! Can you imagine ole Hank hunkered down at Walden Pond uploading his blog via DSL? We can see Thoreau's diary entries on the day of the year they were written (although … Continue reading Blogging with Hank
The Paths we Travel
An interesting post from blogger Tess Thompson of St. Louis: In her blog, Arch Words, Tess discusses what she deems "one of the most misunderstood poems in the United States," The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. As you can see, the last lines of that poem are among my favorite quotes and ones which … Continue reading The Paths we Travel
Pratt’s on a sunny day
Last Sunday (April 26th) we drove to Pratt's Falls for a picnic/hike. The park was quiet and we had the trails all to ourselves. This little guy on the left, a dark-eyed (slate-colored) junco was working with his mate, perhaps building a nest under the eaves or tending a new clutch of chicks. We hiked … Continue reading Pratt’s on a sunny day
Falling in Ithaca
I've been doing lots of hiking lately and thus have fallen behind on the blog. Today is a catch-up day. This first of two posts is from April 15th, a day spent in Ithaca. We approached the city by way of the Cornell University campus, stopping at the museum there. We saw many intriguing works … Continue reading Falling in Ithaca
Hiking the Highland
Yesterday was a bright, sunny, and chilly day but proved to be a great day for hiking in Highland Forest. The brave adventurers chose the"Main Trail," a nearly 8-mile trek. Eight miles of flat terrain is a challenge. Eight miles of inclines, streams, twists, and turns is a BIG challenge. Stopping at a lean-to for … Continue reading Hiking the Highland
Life [as it was] on Mars
Episode 17: "Life is a Rock" (Series Finale)ABC-TV http://abc.go.com/primetime/lifeonmars)Like many high-quality shows, Life on Mars has its loyal fans, but apparently the message never got to the mainstream. And that's a shame. This was definitely a show that should not have been canceled, or missed. I might never have tuned in myself had I not … Continue reading Life [as it was] on Mars

Gaggle Me!
First tour of Montezuma for the year and apparently everyone else had the same idea. So many cars on the drive, many spectators at the carp convention. We found ospreys on one nest along Route 20 but no others. I sure hope there will be more soon, but at least two nests on Route 89 … Continue reading Gaggle Me!
Building the Next Generaton at Mud Lock
On my way to Sistah Kate's house on Saturday I decided I might as well check out Montezuma for signs of winter wildlife. Nothing much at the refuge, but I was surprised to see the eagles at Mud Lock sprucing up the nest and trying mightily to generate a new brood of young. I was … Continue reading Building the Next Generaton at Mud Lock
