Gregory, Michigan is a small town west of Ann Arbor, and where Charlie’s brother, Dave, and sister-in-law Joan, live. Dave pretty much built the house by himself over a period of two to three years. Impressive! We ventured out for a visit the last week of May. Dave, Charlie, their sister, Judy and brother-in-law Doug spent much of the week cycling the trails in and around Gregory. Some days I walked while they biked; some days I stayed home with my knitting and my camera.
One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the spectacular sandhill cranes. On a walk one morning with Charlie we heard them calling from very nearby. A little sleuthing and we found them in an open field, probably 6-8 in all. (I must add that I am bummed to have seen a pileated woodpecker but couldn’t get my camera in time to take a picture.)
When we go to Michigan we stop to visit my sister in Dunkirk, NY. It breaks an 8-hour drive into two manageable segments. Always a part of our visit is dinner at the Stockton Hotel in Stockton. Their carrot cake is delicious!
We returned to two dogs who were VERY excited to see us–and a cat who was not pleased that the dogs were back.
Next trip: Boyd Pond in Russell, New York in early July.
