Another successful trip to our July favorite, Boyd Pond, north of Gouvernour, NY. Most of the week was warm, one day really hot. That night around midnight, we had very heavy rain, constant thunder and lightning, and golf ball size hail. Between the noise of the hail and the emergency alerts on my phone, I didn’t sleep much. The next morning I was surprised to see there was no damage, although some nearby places lost power.
Boyd Pond looks as it always does. I believe the loons have a baby–you can see him flapping in the water in one of the photos. I decided to focus mostly on the plant and animal life this time. The bullfrog and chipmunks were not cooperating, but I have the usual array of loon pics. Charlie was out fishing every morning and evening, weather permitting, so I had to include a picture of the intrepid fisherman. Plenty of bass just waiting to be caught!
Must give a shout out to our go-to restaurant for dinner in Russell–GT’s Family Restaurant, and our favorite place to get breakfast on the way home–Silver Leaf Diner in Dekalb Junction, NY. Both are outstanding!
I came home with a bunch of black-eyed susans that I dug up along the roadside. They are everywhere. Now they live in my backyard garden. Next year we might go in June to accommodate another trip we’re planning (fingers crossed the black flies are not too bad).
